Congratulations on being selected to be on Leal's Dance Drill Team!
Payment is required ONLY for students that have been accepted on the team - This is not a public Fall/Spring Course
Classes will be held Mondays after school from 1:45 to 3:30 pm in the theater room E-10. We do ask that you commit to the team for the year. This commitment will allow skills and technique to be developed before moving into a performance/competition routine.
Miss Montes was the director of the National Champion Dance/Drill and All Male Dance Team at Cerritos High School for eight years. She even took some team members to compete internationally in Japan where they won an international title. Miss Montes has taught an after school dance class with the support of LEAP for many years. In 2019 the Leal Dance/Drill Team attended their first competition at Six Flags and took home 1st place in their category, received the high point award for an elementary medium size routine, and were the overall high point elementary team winners.
This is a great opportunity for Leal students to be a part of a school team, learn how to work together, and develop confidence while performing in front of large audiences. Team members will have various performance and competition opportunities throughout the year at Leal and in Southern California.
Program: Grades 1st, 2nd and 3rd
This year, LEAP is excited to offer a brand-new opportunity for your child to develop strong writing skills with Mr. Johnston. This small class, limited to just ten students, is designed to help young writers either catch up or advance their abilities in writing fluently and effectively.
For many elementary students, one of the greatest academic needs is additional support in developing their writing skills. This course addresses that need through customized, one-on-one instruction—guiding students from the earliest stages of brainstorming to producing a polished final piece they can be proud of.
Throughout the course, students will explore The Writing Process and focus on:
Brainstorming and organizing ideas
Writing complete sentences packed with meaningful content
Varying sentence structure for interest and flow
Communicating ideas from broad concepts to specific details
Crafting strong introductions and conclusions
Using transitions to connect ideas smoothly
Expanding vocabulary for precision and clarity
Knowing what to focus on during revision and editing
Writing in different genres
Enhancing writing with literary devices
…and much more!
